This week at NAB, Seagate unveiled the newest model in their durable Rugged hard drive line. The LaCie Rugged RAID Pro offers 4 terabytes (TB) of hard drive space and transfers data at speeds up to 240 megabytes per second (MB/s).

Familiar Bright Orange Case Protects It from the Elements

Like the rest of the Rugged line, the new Rugged Pro is designed specifically for hard, all-terrain use. Instantly recognizable by its bright orange, rubber casing, the Rugged Pro is shock, dust, crush and water resistant, making it an ideal travel hard drive when venturing into wild, remote areas for on-location production.[image:blog_post:69463]

The LaCie Rugged RAID Pro features a Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C connector and is backwards compatible with USB 3.0. It contains two HDDs that can be configured in RAID 0 or RAID 1, giving the user either faster transfer speeds or a back-up copy of the hard drive’s stored data should the drive partially fail.

New SD Card Reader Allows for Data Transfer in the Field

This versatile RAID also includes, new to the Rugged RAID line, an integrated SD card reader allowing for the easy transfer of data with or without a computer as an intermediary. With the SD card reader and 4TB of storage space, simply carrying this hard drive can exponentially increase your video storage capability without needing to bring a handful of SD cards wherever you go.[image:blog_post:69462]

Pricing and Availability

Seagate’s LaCie Rugged RAID Pro will be launching before the end of the quarter with a suggested price of 349 dollars. It will include a limited 3-year warranty with free data recovery should the hard drive get damaged.

LaCie’s Collective Group

Along with their announcement of the new Rugged RAID Pro, LaCie also recently launched a media and entertainment group called Collective, an online community intended to provide creatives with a means to communicate with each other, mentor one another, share ideas and collaborate on projects.

Membership to the group is free and already contains an impressive number of tutorials and how-to videos from various industry professionals. Individuals new to the industry may find these guides and resources useful in their day-to-day productions.
